Trump blames ‘Islamist terrorists’ for Berlin attack

Donald Trump has blamed the deadly truck crash in Berlin on “Islamist terrorists” — saying they targeted “innocent” Christians as they “prepared to celebrate the Christmas holiday.”

The president-elect made the comments as he condemned the suspected terror attack, which left at least 12 people dead and scores more injured, in a statement Monday night.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the loved ones of the victims of today’s horrifying terror attack in Berlin,” Trump said. “Innocent civilians were murdered in the streets as they prepared to celebrate the Christmas holiday. ISIS and other Islamist terrorists continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship as part of their global jihad. These terrorists and their regional and worldwide networks must be eradicated from the face of the earth, a mission we will carry out with all freedom-loving partners.”

Trump also fired off a tweet in which he hinted at taking a stand against global terrorism.

“Today there were terror attacks in Turkey, Switzerland and Germany — and it is only getting worse. The civilized world must change thinking!” he said.

The statements came as investigators continue to piece together a motive for Monday’s alleged attack, which is reportedly being investigated as an act of terrorism.

The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Force tweeted that the terror group was taking credit for the incident. The militia group used encrypted technology to uncover several jihadist Twitter accounts that had been claiming responsibility for the attack, according to the Washington Times.
